@david.blake345 This is such a sad and relatable experience. I can personally empathize with the experience of having therapists not "get" what ITs are and where they're coming from which only serves to increase the stigma.
For me personally, I started having intrusive thoughts very young. I always knew something was off but due to my upbringing, I felt uncomfortable sharing. My family found a therapist for me when I was a junior in high school. However, I later realized that he was of the opinion not to “label” me with a diagnosis and tried to instill coping skills. I tried to tell him some of my intrusive thoughts, but it was clear he did not understand. Unfortunately there were a few other instances that I would rather not like to share.
